Last year I came into possession of a folder of family recipes. I am working toward getting them into a cook book, which might take a while, so I'm going to start posting them here.
How about some simple comfort food? This is my grandmother's recipe from the early 50s... and she apparently won a contest with it! It's pretty basic and there's a good chance you have all this in your pantry and fridge right now.
I wrote it up here as it was written on the original recipe. Don't fret too much about the lack of specific measurements - you can wing it! My favorite part of this recipe is that it calls for 5 cents worth of macaroni. Does anyone know how much 5 cents worth of macaroni is?
Ingredients
1 pound hamburger, cooked and drained
2 T butter
2 quarts boiling water
1 can red kidney beans
1 can tomatoes
5 cents worth of macaroni
1 t Watkins chili powder
Salt and paprika to taste
